Orchards, vineyards, family & friends

These are the makings of a PERFECT birthday weekend šŸ™‚

The company all weekend was exquisite. From road-tripping all over the state with Will to spending the night at my parents’ house to a surprise family party and a friend-filled brunch… The people in my life are just amazing and made me feel oh-so loved.

And then there were the places… Oh North Ga in late October, you do have my heart. Fall is hands-down my favorite season. The smells, the sights, the jackets you get to wear! Truly the best. So what better way to ring in a birthday than spending a whole weekend just reveling in the beauty!

BJ Reece Apple Orchard

The adventurous weekend started here. Apple products galore! We may have fallen victim to apple cider… apple bread… apple pie… And it was all worth it šŸ™‚

We picked our own apples, which was worth the few dollars extra verses buying them at the store. There were 3 different types of apples ready for pickin’. Rome Beauties, Golden Delicious, and Winesap. We got a good mix of the three and might have sampled a few along the way… Oops!

I was amazed by the lines and lines of apple trees in the orchard. So much talent and knowledge put into growing these delicious fruits. Made me want to be a farmer, for real!

Downtown Ellijay

Only the cutest little mountain town there ever was! Antique shops, broccoli cheddar soup, and tons of scarecrows are what will characterize little Ellijay to me. Will & I even took a shortcut into town, which was mildly sketchy and routed through people’s back yards but SO worth the view of the valley.

We stopped in at the Tea Room to have some chili (delish) and did what we do best… walked a lot, window shopped, and bought nothing šŸ™‚

Cartecay Vineyard

After our visit to downtown we trekked back up the shortcut road to a vineyard just down the road from the orchard (literally a mile apart so they were a great pair for the day). This place had such a cool vibe, even though the musician of the day was… okay. We were really hoping for some bluegrass music when we heard there was live music. The Luke Bryan wannabe had some serious talent, just not what we expected at a fancy vineyard haha.

We were able to walk through the vineyard and even spotted some leftover grapes from the harvest! To sit on a patio with a fireplace, listen to music, snack and sip, and pet the friendliest pup ever was a true birthday treat. All my favorite things in one place! And no, we didn’t bring the pup home (even though I wanted to, of course).

The Farm Store

We actually didn’t have this on the agenda but when we saw the sign saying it was only 2 miles past Cartecay we figured we should go. I’ll warn you, if you go… You’ll think you’re getting lost haha. But the drive out was well worth it because we got some delicious, fresh blackberry jam, got to pet lots of animals, and learn about a Georgia grown grassfed farm operation that has some really cool stuff!

Of course, I loved the animals most… šŸ™‚

Atlanta Food Truck Market

While we didn’t actually get any food there, I’m so proud of us for being spontaneous and turning around to go check out this Food Truck market. We saw the lights and signs, got off at the next exit, and got back there as fast as we could. It. Was. So. Cool! Wish we could’ve tried the mac & cheese stuffed burger or the chocolate creme brulee… Next time we’re in ATL, it’s a must. But sadly we were there too early (apparently 7pm is too early for dinner haha) so we will have to make a point to check out their website for details next time.

Highland Bakery

Brunch is my favorite meal. I’d eat it every day if I could. And if I’m going to check out any restaurant in Atlanta I have to get recommendations from my most trustworthy foodie friend, Mary. My parents had actually gone to Highland for dad’s birthday breakfast, so when Mary put it at the top of her list I was excited to go try it myself. The peanut butter infused french toast with bananas foster syrup… the jalepeno cheese sauce covered fried chicken eggs benedict… the granola… the biscuits… the omelettes… the crab cakes… Holy moly was our table of 10 filled with scrumptious dishes (and I wanted a bite of everyones!!). Plus, our waitress was the bomb and when she found out it was my birthday she brought me a red velvet cupcake with a candle and everything!

These are a few of my new favorite places from our getaway weekend, and I recommend them all highly to you! Check out their websites (I hyperlinked them all for you šŸ™‚ ) and go plan your North Ga/ Atlanta weekend! You won’t regret it, and for most it’s not too bad of a drive for a most relaxing and perfect getaway! Happy birthday weekend, to me, indeed!
